The Community Building and Outreach Committee’s mission is to inform, engage and mobilize local potential members, as well as the San Diego community at large. We will inform the community about events and actions involving, and endorsed by JVP San Diego, in which the community can participate. The Committee will reach out to potential new members through one-on-one conversations to share the mission and values of JVP, and will develop printed materials, social media posts, and emails to mobilize new members. The committee works on building relationships with other local groups organizing for Palestinian liberation as well as organizes community events to get to know one another and to engage in Jewish anti-zionist community events. Simply stated, the Community Building and Outreach Committee serves to build and mobilize our base and maintain a bridge between the community and JVP San Diego with our goal of building the movement for Palestinian liberation.
The Political Education Committee organizes programming and initiatives to educate JVP members and the community about the historic context, narratives, and impacts of Zionism, as well as the ongoing struggle of Palestinian liberation. We organize events such as film screenings, workshops, dialogues, and guest speakers, and advocate for accurate curriculum about Israel-Palestine in schools. Our activities also focus on building solidarity with other movements for justice and liberation, by highlighting the intersections between Zionism, imperialism, settler colonialism, white supremacy, and heteropatriarchy. Through political education, we continually deepen our understanding of Israeli apartheid and learn how to more effectively mobilize our members and the community in solidarity with Palestinian-led movements for liberation and justice.
The Action Committee works in response to current events and promotes solidarity of the local and international community through organized and coordinated efforts. Our work includes, but is not limited to: planning and implementing actions, coordinating security, mobilizing JVP contingents to show up and support actions called by other groups, and amplifying calls to action in support of Palestinian liberation.
The Political Advocacy and Research Committee seeks to pressure our local, statewide and federal politicians to support policies that further the movement for Palestinian freedom and to oppose further US government funding and political support for Israel and its apartheid policies. We do this by mobilizing our JVP San Diego base to meet with local politicians, attend political events, and speak at public meetings. We research and provide information to our larger chapter and allies on our politicians’ stances and actions with regard to support for Palestinian human rights and liberation. This committee also supports efforts to align with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement by researching local groups and corporations that are materially supporting Zionism and settler colonialism and by partnering with local groups that are organizing around BDS campaigns.
The Website, Art and Media Committee honors the long history of anti-colonial and anti-imperial resistance through critical communication on Kumeyaay land. The Website, Art and Media committee leads projects and campaigns to intervene against a local U.S. media environment of censorship, and ‘copaganda’ and builds shared analysis and resources with aligned partner organizations through our chapter website and mailing list systems, speaking engagements, local press and op eds, and sourcing and creating artwork for chapter communications.
